Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

These are some of the questions that customers often ask us, answered!

Will my concrete crack?

Yes, your concrete may crack. Cracks are mainly caused by expansion and contraction. To avoid this, we tool in expansion cuts to alleviate pressure on the concrete. There are a variety of reasons that cracking may occur.

  • Freeze and Thaw - also referred to as “frost heaves”. To protect against this, we use styrofoam brackets and rebar to relieve the pressure buildup underneath the concrete.

  • Improper Groundwater Management on Property - This causes the ground to sink or be constantly saturated with water. To protect against this, we install piles, grade beams, or higher density rebar.

How often do I need to seal my concrete?

You should reseal your concrete every 2-3 years after a thorough power washing with a quality sealer that you can find at one of our suppliers. Broom finish doesnt necessarily need to be sealed, but if you do wish to do so, choose a low sheen, penetrating sealer applied with a spray can and roller. Stamped concrete should be sealed every 2-3 years, with your choice of finish. Exposed should be sealed every 2-3 years, and it is recommended to use a high gloss, penetrating finish.

Is de-icing salt okay to use on my concrete?

No, salt is not good for your concrete. It will cause your concrete to chip and peel. This may aslo occur with the salt from the road dripping from your vehicle onto the driveway or garage floor. It’s best to shovel, then apply sand or gravel to icy spots, or to call one of our suppliers for more options.

Is my concrete maintenance free?

Unfortunately no. It requires yearly cleaning, care, and regular sealing to prevent staining, peeling, cracking and scratching.

What does ground prep mean?

Ground prep means the breakout and removal of old concrete if required, excavation and compaction of base material (dirt, rock, gravel, sand), and installation of brackets, piles, rebar and forms.

Can I colour my concrete?

Yes! There is a large variety of colours to choose from. We will provide you with a current colour chart with all of our available colours to choose from.

What types of finishes can you do on my concrete?

We do a variety of finishes. From the standard broom finish with reopened cuts and edges, a california broom, or a smooth steel trowel finish that leaves the surface smooth and flat. If you’re looking for some texture, our spin float finish provides a swirl effect with a raised texture. Exposed aggregate leaves a rocky finish to your concrete. Most popular is our stamped concrete, in which we have a variety of stamps to choose from to make your concrete facade as cobblestone, brick, or even wood! Our finishes are all also displayed in our gallery.
